Lone Bicycle, Brick Lane, London, UK

In the 20th century the Brick Lane area was important in the second wave of development of Anglo-Indian cuisine, as families from countries such as Bangladesh migrated to London to look for work. The ‘curry houses’ of Brick Lane are known for their cheap and cheerful food, and for allowing customers to bring their own beer. More recently the area has also broadened to being a vibrant art and fashion student area, with considerable exhibition space. Each year most of the fine art and fashion courses exhibit their work near Brick Lane.

“Light gives of itself freely, filling all available space. It does not seek anything in return; it asks not whether you are friend or foe. It gives of itself and is not thereby diminished.” ~Michael Strassfeld

Wooden szekely door, Transylvania, Romania.

Wooden gates, known locally as szekely gates, are the main originality of the traditional Transylvanian architecture. These gates magnify the entrances to village houses, cemeteries and churches. Their function is to welcome visitors, to show devotion to their own people, and status to the owner. Many of these gates are still built nowadays because villagers still give great importance to the outside. One can be proud to have had built a beautiful and strong gate in front of his house.
